Barely anyone could predict that eight-time Super Bowl champion coach Bill Belichick would transition to college football coaching at North Carolina. Now, alongside his coaching duties, he has also embraced the role of recruiter by visiting potential prospects to boost the Tar Heels’ program.

On Tuesday, Belichick made headlines during a recruiting visit to Charlotte, where he stopped at several high schools, including Myers Park, Providence Day and Weddington. One of the elite high school prospects to receive a visit from him was four-star interior offensive lineman Leo Delaney from the 2026 class.

Belichick made an “amazing” impression on Delaney, as he shared with On3's Steve Wiltfong:

“He talked about the coaches he’s bringing in and how experienced they all are."

Delaney also shared an image with Bill Belichick on X, alongside the caption:

"Great to meet Coach belichick! #GoHeels."

Delaney is the No. 7-ranked interior offensive lineman in the 2026 class, the No. 8-ranked recruit in North Carolina and the No. 116-ranked prospect in the nation. He has received more than 30 offers from college programs and has already revealed his top eight schools: Tennessee, NC State, Clemson Georgia, Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan and Nebraska.

Though North Carolina didn’t make the list, Delaney might reconsider his choices if the push from Bill Belichick's coaching staff continues.

North Carolina doesn’t yet have a commit in the 2026 class, but the momentum can turn in the Tar Heels' favor anytime, given Belichick's strong track record of successfully developing offensive giants like Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski.

Bill Belichick visited multiple Charlotte-based prospects

Besides Leo Delaney, another Providence Day player who received a visit from Belichick was four-star wide receiver Gordon Sellars. He is the No. 49-ranked wide receiver in the 2026 class and the No. 17-ranked recruit in North Carolina, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

Bill Belichick’s stops also included Myers Park, where he connected with edge rusher Rodney Dunham and wide receiver Brody Keefe. Dunham is ranked as the No. 3 edge rusher in the 2026 class and the No. 26 prospect in the nation, while Keefe is the No. 65 wide receiver in the cycle and the No. 20 recruit in North Carolina.

At Weddington, Belichick met with the Harris brothers, Andrew and Aiden. Andrew is the No. 21-ranked edge rusher in the 2026 class and the No. 220-ranked prospect in the nation, while Aiden is the No. 1-ranked defensive lineman in the cycle and the No. 30-ranked prospect nationally.
