NBA legend Kobe Bryant's nephew, Jett Washington, is making waves as the top-ranked high school safety in the Class of 2026. A junior, Washington has already collected numerous accolades, including being named a MaxPreps Junior First-Team All-American. Standing tall at 6’4” and weighing 200 pounds, his versatility shines both on the gridiron and the basketball court.
Fans and analysts alike are lauding Washington, who is ranked as the No. 1 safety in the nation, per 247sports, for his impressive athleticism and football IQ.
"His uncle would be proud," one fan said.
"He tracks the ball well!" another fan said.
Here is how other fans expressed their reactions:
"*Thee greatest player…and the legacy continues!! Lets go Jett," one fan said.
"Watching this makes me feel very happy for you and your family. It also feels extremely familiar," another fan said.
Washington’s dual-sport talent extends to basketball, where he represents Bishop Gorman’s varsity team as a wing. His athletic prowess seems inherited, as his father, Jerrod Washington, was drafted by the New England Patriots in 1994 after a stellar college football career.
Jett Washington once reflected thriving under the shadow of Kobe Bryant’s greatness
In January, Jett Washington showcased his talent at Los Angeles' Crypto.com Arena, formerly the Staples Center—a venue forever tied to his uncle Kobe Bryant’s legendary career, including five NBA championships.
Under the same roof where Bryant’s jerseys hang in honor, Washington delivered an unforgettable performance, scoring 33 points, including a clutch three-pointer that forced the game into overtime.
Washington acknowledged the challenge of being Bryant’s nephew, but emphasized his focus on personal growth and enjoyment. Speaking to The Athletic, he said,
“Sometimes I feel a little bit of pressure (being Bryant’s nephew), but my parents make sure I don’t feel it too much. They tell me to just go out there and have fun, don’t try to overthink and just play. My uncle was a great player. At the same time, I know he wanted me to make my own name. He laid the foundation for me. I’m just grateful.”
Recruiters are taking notice, with more than 21 scholarship offers from top colleges already extended to the young star. He has offers from Georgia, Washington, and Nebraska, among others.
