The No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2025 Aaliyah Chavez continues to perform at the highest level for Monterey High School. The Lubbock, Texas native reached her fourth straight 1,000-point season on Tuesday.
High school basketball page SportsCenter NEXT took to Instagram to share the feat achieved by Aaliyah Chavez during Monterey's dominating 103-42 victory against the Coronado Mustangs.
Hoops fans took to the comments section to react to Chavez's showing against the Mustangs, as she scored 50 points:
"Hopefully she goes on to play for Dawn," one fan commented.
"Go to UCLA please, would be awesome to see a Latina Mexicana balling out for UCLA here in So Cal! UCLA has got something special going on. They are a new force in women's college basketball be a part of it please," another fan wrote.
"She earned every accolade she receives! This kid and her family have put the WORK in and deserve it all!💯," one high school hoops fan wrote.
More fans joined the conversation in the comments section.
"Does anyone know where she's going? Not even hearing any rumors. Always loved her style of play, however it's her attitude that I think needs a little working on. She's great on the court but I seen some incidents where she pushed her opponent or stared down at her w/o even converting the bucket. I think a good attitude can make or break the player," an Instagram user wrote.
"Knew this was coming since she was in 5th grade, her and Jersey Robinson up next when they hit college, they finna go off," one fan wrote.
What kind of coach does Aaliyah Chavez want?
With plenty of offers from top programs across the nation, On3 predicts that Chavez is likely to take her talents to one of these five schools - Oklahoma, UCLA, Texas, Texas Tech, or South Carolina.
Oklahoma and UCLA lead the race to land the No. 1 player in the 2025 Class with a 37.0% and 32.3% chance respectively according to On3. Chavez spoke about the kind of coach that she wanted to play for in an interview in July last year.
"I don’t want a coach that’s low energy," Chavez said. "I need to make sure that they’re going to be there the whole time. I don’t want a coach that’s just going to be there for two years … I want them to be there all four years."
