Hugh Freeze's Auburn offers scholarship to four-star TE Matt Ludwig to the Class of 2026

Four-star athlete Matt Ludwig has made a name for himself since his first season at Billings West High School in Montana. He is set to reveal his top colleges in the offseason, and Hugh Freeze's Auburn is the latest program to extend a scholarship to him.

Tigers assistant director of player personnel T.J. Randall reached out to Ludwig with the offer on Wednesday. The 6-foot-4 230-pound prospect posted the news on X, tagging Freeze and Randall while writing:

"After a great conversation with @TJ_Randall12 I am blessed to receive an offer to Auburn @AuburnFootball @CoachHughFreeze @RobStantonr @CoachDanWatson @KaneClaunch @BWestFball."

Auburn's 2026 class holds the commitments of five prospects, including linebacker Shadarius Toodle, edge rusher Hezekiah Harris, wide receiver Denairius Gray, linebacker JaMichael Garrett and safety Wayne Henry.

Receiving a commitment from a tight end like Ludwig will be a huge victory for Auburn's 2026 class, as the prospect can also line up as a linebacker and quarterback.

High school coach raves about Matt Ludwig's potential

Billings West High School’s football team has secured the second seed from the Eastern Conference and a first-round bye in the Class AA State playoffs. Matt Ludwig played a big role by recording 710 receiving yards for four touchdowns throughout nine games.

The next target for Ludwig is to lead the Golden Bears to their first state title since 2018. Speaking with NBC Montana, Billings West coach Rob Stanton raved about Ludwig's potential, saying:

"I think the work he puts in makes him special. There's a lot of people that have some of his features, there's some that don't put the work in, and he's been really good at putting the work in, he's been doing it his whole life."

In the final regular-season game on Friday, the Golden Bears defeated Belgrade 34-14. Ludwig shared his goal for the upcoming journey, saying:

"I'm just trying to take in every second that I can and enjoy the environment that God has given me here in Billings. Just really grow the family and try to leave a legacy here as a team."

Matt Ludwig is ranked by the On3 Industry Rankings as the No. 214 overall prospect in the 2026 class, the No. 16 athlete and the No. 1 in Montana.
