Kiyan Anthony was following his legendary father Carmelo Anthony's footsteps during the USA Basketball junior minicamp in Colorado Springs, Colorado from Oct. 11-13.
He was one of the most impressive players at the minicamp and he talked about what he wants in his game during an interview with the "Pro Insight" YouTube channel.
The 4-star Long Island Lutheran High School shooting guard told Pro Insight's Tyler Glazier that he wanted to improve his game more during the 2024-2025 high school basketball season. Particularly, getting stronger and hitting the weights.
Another aspect he seeks to improve on is leadership, adding that he feels he should take up a bigger leadership role with his team.
"Just hoping to become more of a leader like in my high school team. I feel like my role is to be a leader one of the leaders on the team and just really showcase my defensive ability," he told Pro Insight. "I want to go out there, you know, guard the best player, guard whoever's guarding me and then win the matchup."
He further elaborated on the type of leadership he seeks to bring to his team at Long Island Lutheran.
"That's what I'm going to try to prove to everybody else," he added. "That's watching yeah like what type of leader would you say you are. I feel like I'm a vocal leader if somebody on my team isn't doing something right or if I'm not doing something right, I'll bring myself back up or I'll allow somebody else on my team to bring me up.
"When a big man or point guard is not doing something right to help us win, then I'm definitely telling him about himself and then we come together we talk about it and then we go out there and fix it," he said. "I feel like that's what type of leader I am."
The four-star showed improvement in his strength and ball-handling during the USA Basketball junior minicamp. As a senior, Kiyan Anthony already has several accolades under his belt, including winning the gold medal at the U17 FIBA World Cup in Turkey last summer.
Three colleges Kiyan Anthony might go to after Long Island Lutheran
The big question for Kiyan Anthony now is where he will go to college. He is now down to his final three schools, and these schools are USC, Syracuse, and Auburn.
Because of Carmelo's connection to Syracuse, the 4-star guard, considered the No. 34 overall player by On3, is likeliest to join the Orange, with an 84.2% chance.
However, Kiyan Anthony himself has stated that his father has not been pushing for Syracuse and wants him to choose for himself.
