Fort Myers (Fla.) Bishop Verot quarterback Carter Smith announced his commitment to the Michigan Wolverines' 2025 recruitment class last year and has remained loyal to his decision ever since. His dedication was strengthened during Michigan's Victors Weekend, which welcomed 17 official visitors and their families, including Smith's.
During an interview with On3's EJ Holland, Smith's mother revealed why the Wolverines always remained their No. 1 program.
“From the first time we stepped foot on Michigan’s campus, we knew. The people. The town. It was incredible. You just knew in your heart that Michigan was where he needed to be, especially after spending time with the coaching staff. It’s a great place.”
During their visit, the Wolverines provided the Smith family with a comprehensive overview of Carter's future day-to-day life. They discussed his daily routines, expectations and the support system in place to help him grow both as a player and a person, which impressed his mother, as she said:
“I think it’s a great fit for Carter. They are down to earth. They are great people. They are genuine. They really care about each player that they have on the team and the recruits coming in."
Carter Smith's father shared similar sentiments about the welcoming environment in Michigan:
"We were treated first class. The people. I can’t say it enough. From the entry level assistants to Sherrone Moore to Warde Manuel, everybody was so genuine. It wasn’t a surprise.”
The family also had the opportunity to connect deeply with the Michigan coaching staff, including new head coach Sherrone Moore, and quarterback coach/offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell.
