“I’m definitely seriously considering Alabama” - 5-star WR Kaliq Lockett highlights from visit to HC Kalen DeBoer’s Alabama

Five-star wide receiver Kaliq Lockett, hailing from Sachse, Texas, recently visited Alabama. Lockett ranked as the No. 11 overall prospect and the No. 2 wide receiver in the nation, had initially focused on four schools before deciding to explore Alabama as a serious contender.

The decision to visit Alabama came after a conversation with Keelon Russell, a quarterback committed to the Crimson Tide. According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Lockett is the No. 3 wide receiver in the 2025 class. His visit to Tuscaloosa, hosted by Ryan Williams, left a lasting impression.

“Man, this is probably the best it’s going to get, in my opinion,” Lockett shared with BamaOnLine. “Getting a chance to be around Ryan Williams was big. Getting a chance to be around Coach Shephard, Coach DeBoer, and the rest of the staff was big, too.”

Kaliq Lockett was one of only two official visitors on campus and received VIP treatment from DeBoer, Shephard, and the Alabama staff. Post-visit, Lockett confirmed that Alabama is a serious contender in his recruitment.

“It was amazing,” Lockett remarked about his time with DeBoer. “He didn’t even have to tell me I’m a priority for him and the staff. They showed me. That’s what I like about Alabama. I know it’s late in the process a little bit, but Alabama is no different than my other top choices.

"I’m definitely seriously considering Alabama. People should not sleep on Alabama in my recruitment. I’m excited for how my recruitment is going to shape up.”

The month of June brought recruits visiting Alabama often finding themselves in the company of Ryan Williams. Lockett and Williams connected well, discussing the potential of playing together.

“I keep forgetting Ryan should be in my class and we’re the same age,” Lockett said. “Him and I kicked it, we laughed. Me and him were basically talking about teaming up together. We were talking about how deadly that would be. Me and Ryan would tear things up at Alabama, that’s for sure. For years to come.”

Although Kaliq Lockett has not named a leading school, he is seriously considering Alabama alongside Florida State, LSU, Texas A&M, and Texas, which he plans to visit.

Five-star wide receiver Kaliq Lockett's discussions with the coaching staff, particularly coach Shephard and coach DeBoer, were pivotal in shaping his impression of the program.

“Their main message was that if I choose Bama, Coach Shephard is going to look out for me and maximize my capabilities,” Lockett explained, and what Coach DeBoer did at Washington not having the amount of resources that Bama has now. Now that he’s at Alabama, I can just imagine what’s going to happen with the offense.”

Kaliq Lockett was particularly impressed by Shephard’s consistent energy.

“Very high energy,” Lockett noted. “Talking with most of the players, they were telling me he’s the same person off the field, on the field. He’s the same person all the time,"

Kaliq Lockett's high school stats back up his potential, boasting 2,444 receiving yards and 34 touchdowns in his career, with 1,144 yards and 14 touchdowns in his senior year alone.
