Michigan ended its 2024 season with a 19-13 win over Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl on Tuesday at Raymond James Stadium. After winning the national championship in the 2023 season, first-year coach Sherrone Moore guided the Wolverines to an 8-5 record in 2024. Despite some challenges during the season, defeating the Crimson Tide was a triumphant way to close the year.

The win resonated deeply with Michigan's future stars, including four-star wide receiver commit Jaylen Pile.

“That was a huge win for Michigan and great momentum heading into the spring!" Pile told Blitz Sports Media. "To beat Bama on the first day of 2024 (sic) is big time for the program and Coach Moore. I’m excited for the future."

The wide receiver from Parish Episcopal High School (Texas) had an outstanding junior season with 63 receptions, accumulating 1,367 yards, 19 touchdowns and an average of 21.7 yards per catch. He caught for 427 yards and five scores in his sophomore season.

Jaylen Pile's versatility as both a slot receiver and an outside threat makes him a valuable addition to Michigan’s 2026 recruiting class. His game has drawn comparisons to NFL stars like Ja’Marr Chase, Stefon Diggs and Davante Adams due to his ability to excel against press coverage and execute crisp releases.

Jaylen Pile raves about Sherrone Moore's potential in Michigan

Jaylen Pile committed to Michigan over schools like Auburn, Florida State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Oregon, among others. One of the major reasons behind his pledge to the Wolverines was Sherrone Moore.

"He's very passionate about what he loves and he's a great guy," Pile said. "I've been talking to him for a while now, and every time I see him, he always has a big smile. So he's just a great person, great competitor, and somebody who's not afraid to preach it and stands by his faith."

Stepping in during Jim Harbaugh’s suspension in 2023, Moore proved his ability to maintain Michigan's high standards. After taking over as head coach last year, he has cultivated a culture of excellence that aligns with recruits like Pile.

"He gets people run through a wall for him," Pile said. "So he's a great motivator. He's amazing, that culture just never changed. He's an amazing coach and he's somebody I'd love to play for."

Besides Jaylen Pile, Michigan has cornerback Brody Jennings locked in the 2026 class. Pile is ready to join the team in December as an early enrollee.
