Former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald's son Devin wants to build a career of his own. Bearing the expectations that come with a name that big, Devin remains focused on the sport. The high school junior plays in the same position his father did, setting the bar at an all-time high.
During a short interview with journalist Leila Ruterman, Devin emphasized that he's out to create his own legacy. He said,
“I'm trying to build, like, my own name. I'm trying to be known as Devin Fitzgerald, not Larry Fitzgerald's son.”
The teenager realizes the challenges that come with such a dream. He admitted the effort he needs to put in and that it's possible only if he keeps performing.
Devin Fitzgerald has multiple offers in bag
Devin Fitzgerald, a three-star wide receiver from Brophy College Prep, Phoenix, Arizona, stands at 6-ft-2 and weighs 185 pounds. The class of 2026 prospect is ranked the 81st wide receiver nationally by 247Sports and the No. 4 player in Arizona.
Naturally, he has caught the attention of established college programs across the country, with 10 offers already in the bag.
He has received offers from Akron, Arizona, Bowling Green, Pittsburgh, Temple, Washington State, Columbia, Dartmouth, Pennsylvania, and Yale. He spoke to Ruterman about his recruitment. He said,
“I think it started off slow since, I mean, like, a couple of my teammates got them freshman year, which that was awesome, everything but mine didn’t come till my sophomore year.”
With the numerous options before him now, which are bound to even increase, Devin looks to prioritize certain aspects before choosing a school.
“I want to see a school with a great, great lake alumni and a really good education as well as athletics,” he said.
Devin hasn't made any campus visit yet. However, it might not be long before he starts scheduling visits to evaluate his options more closely. In the 2023-24 season, he made 15 catches for 175 yards and two touchdowns in 11 games for Brophy.
This season, he has almost matched these numbers in much fewer games. With 10 receptions for 135 yards and four touchdowns already in three games, he is set to improve his own record.
