Four-star quarterback Deuce Knight has been committed to Notre Dame for nearly a year after announcing his decision last September. But the Fighting Irish might be on the brink of losing his pledge, as the prospect has shown renewed interest in Auburn.
Tom Loy of 247Sports reported that Knight has already seen all he needs from both Notre Dame and Ole Miss. This update came just before his planned visit to Auburn on Aug. 31 for the Tigers' game against Alabama A&M and his next decision could come in the next few weeks.
Following his sudden trip plan to Auburn, fans on social media are debating the likelihood of a flip.
"He gone," one fan wrote.
"Wow, maybe if Notre Dame was in the Big Ten, they could hold onto him," another wrote.
Let's look at some highlighted reactions to this discussion.
According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Auburn currently holds a 74.6 percent chance of flipping Knight from Notre Dame. It has also led to speculation that Auburn has offered him a lucrative NIL deal, similar to the one they extended to Julian “Juju” Lewis.
"If money is the factor Auburn will def get this guy," one wrote.
Auburn's coaching staff, along with tight end commit Ryan Ghea, have been in constant communication with Knight to secure his commitment.
Knight and his family previously visited Auburn during Big Cat Weekend earlier this summer. If his upcoming visit goes well, it can be the final push needed for Knight to flip his commitment from Notre Dame to Auburn, and Tigers fans couldn't be happier.
"Yesssiir come on,we’ve got a place for ya on the Plains,War Dam," one wrote.
Auburn has 22 players committed to the 2025 class, which ranks No. 6 in the nation and No. 5 in the SEC. The class has not yet earned a commitment from a quarterback.
Deuce Knight's athletic profile
At 6-foot-4.5 and 195 pounds, Knight's size and skill set make him a formidable dual-threat talent, capable of attacking defenses through the air and on the ground.
According to Andrew Ivins, the Director of Scouting at 247Sports, Knight is ideally suited for a spread offense that focuses on moving the quarterback. John Schmid, the All-American Bowl player personnel director, also lauded Knight's ability to burn defenses when he escapes the pocket.
In 2023, Knight transferred to Nashville's Lipscomb Academy for his junior season. He completed 141 of 265 passes, totaling 2,047 yards and 17 touchdowns for only two interceptions, while rushing for 494 yards and 11 touchdowns on 99 carries.
Knight is also a standout in track and field. He is a two-time state champion in the long jump and took gold in the high jump as a junior. According to 247Sports, he is the No. 34 overall player in the country, the No. 5 quarterback in the 2025 class and the No. 2 talent in Mississippi.
