Derrick Rose and his son became emotional during his speech at halftime of the Chicago Bulls’ 139-126 win over the New York Knicks at United Center on Saturday. The night, dubbed the "Derrick Rose night," was highlighted by the announcement that his No. 1 jersey would be retired next season, making him the fifth Bulls player in history to have his jersey retired.
However, the highlight of his speech came when Rose shared how his children challenged him to be great. As he spoke, his son PJ, who was in the stands, became visibly emotional.

“That’s a joke we have in the house. They see me lacking in something and they say, Dad, you wanna be good or great, and it made me remember, I am trying to be great. You hear me, great,” Rose said while facing his son during his speech.

The father-son duo also had the chance to connect on the court when Rose Sr. went back to his alma mater, Simeon Career Academy, to play a basketball game. Both Rose and his son played together on the same team in a game that also featured Simeon alumni, friends, and the current varsity boys basketball team.
