Five-star wide receiver commit Vernell Brown III chose Florida over Ohio State, Florida State and Miami in July. The standout from Jones High School in Florida is enjoying a phenomenal senior season and is drawing the continued attention of the Gators' coaching staff.

On Friday, Gators wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales attended Jones High’s game to keep a close eye on the prized recruit. The Fightin’ Tigers won 31-19 and maintained their undefeated record for the season. They are ranked No. 18 in Florida, with Brown being a key contributor to their success.

While Brown is firmly committed to Billy Napier's Florida, other top programs have not given up on trying to flip him. Miami and Florida State are both heavily recruiting the wideout. However, Brown’s commitment to Florida seems strong, largely due to his deep family ties to the program.

His father, Vernell Brown Jr., played cornerback for the Gators, and later served in various off-field roles for the university from 2018 to 2023. He is now the manager of former Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson.

Vernell Brown III's loyalty to Florida is evident, as he has not taken any official visits to other schools since his commitment. He has also been seen doing the "Gator Chomp" multiple times this season.

Napier can feel confident about Brown’s commitment. The Gators have12 players already committed to their 2025 class, and are ranked No. 28 nationally and No. 13 in the Southeastern Conference.

Vernell Brown III's senior season performance

Through six games, Brown has recorded 563 receiving yards and four touchdowns, while also contributing on defense with two solo tackles. He is leading his school in yards per game.

His standout 2023 season set the stage for his current success, where he caught 70 passes for 1,363 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also recorded one tackle and one interception.

Rivals has Vernell Brown III as the No. 33 overall prospect, the No. 5 wide receiver in the 2025 class and the No. 5 prospect in Florida. Meanwhile, 247Sports ranks him as the No. 53 overall prospect, the No. 7 wide receiver and the No. 8 prospect in the state.
