Isaiah Evans, a Fayetteville, North Carolina native, built an impressive basketball career at North Mecklenburg High School in Huntersville. Now, with the Duke Blue Devils, Evans is poised to make an impact at the college level.
As a junior at North Mecklenburg, Isaiah Evans averaged 26.0 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, dominating the NCHSAA state playoffs with 38.6 points across five contests. His performances earned him North Carolina Mr. Basketball honors, a title he repeated as a senior when he was ranked the No. 5 player in the state.
In his senior year, the 6-foot-7 forward led North Mecklenburg to a 30-3 record and a Class 4A state championship. He averaged 27.4 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 3.2 assists and 2.3 steals per game, shooting 53.0% from the field, 43.0% from 3-point range, and 84.0% from the free-throw line.
He won North Carolina MaxPreps Player of the Year twice (2022-23, 2023-24) and was the 2023-24 Gatorade North Carolina Player of the Year. A McDonald's All-American and member of Team USA at the Nike Hoop Summit, Evans scored over 2,000 career points at North Mecklenburg. To honor his contributions, the school retired his jersey, making him the first and last to wear No. 0.
Isaiah Evans builds on strong start at Duke with breakout game in victory over No. 2 Auburn
Despite receiving offers from prestigious programs like Kansas, Tennessee, and Texas, Evans ultimately chose Duke University. He has wasted no time in acclimating to the collegiate level.
In his last three games, Evans has scored 41 points, including an 18-point performance against No. 2 Auburn Tigers (7-1). He hit six first-half three-pointers, sparking the No. 9 Blue Devils' (6-2) comeback in an 84-78 victory on Wednesday night.
On Tuesday, Isaiah Evans and the Blue Devils will face the Incarnate Word Cardinals.
