Tennessee gave four-star linebacker Christian Gass his first Southeastern Conference offer last year, and he has been committed to the school since July 20. The standout from Eastside High School in Covington, Georgia, is also hearing a lot from his in-state program, the Georgia Bulldogs.
Even Georgia coach Kirby Smart was in attendance for Gass’ game on Friday. His Eastside Eagles program secured a massive 62-10 win against the Cedar Shoals. Speaking with On3, Gass opened up about his recruitment status, saying:
“I’m still locked in, but it ain’t over until it’s over.”
Since announcing his commitment to Tennessee, Gass has continued to build a close relationship with the Volunteers’ coaching staff. He has cited the "love" and support from the program's coach, Josh Heupel, and his team as a primary factor in his decision.
Heupel’s staff has been proactive in keeping Gass engaged, and he has taken two unofficial visits to Knoxville this fall to reconnect with the team. For Gass, the atmosphere and culture in Knoxville have been strong selling points, and he clearly valued his interactions with the Tennessee staff.
However, Gass’ interest in Georgia has been steady, as evidenced by an unofficial visit he took to Athens on Sept. 7, just over a month after committing to Tennessee. Given that he is an in-state recruit, Georgia remains a tempting option, and the Bulldogs’ coaches are likely to continue their push for his signature.
As of now, Tennessee remains in the driver’s seat, with the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine giving the Vols a 91.3% chance of retaining Gass in their 2025 recruiting class, which ranks No. 5 nationally with 23 commits.
What does Christian Gass' potential flip from Tennessee mean for Georgia?
Georgia's 2025 class has two linebacker commits: four-star prospect Zayden Walker and three-star recruit Anthony Kruah, who flipped his commitment from North Carolina to Georgia on Saturday. Adding another promising linebacker like Christian Gass will heavily improve the room.
Gass is ranked by the On3 Industry Rankings as the No. 243 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 23 linebacker in the 2025 class and the No. 31 recruit in Georgia. So far this season, he has recorded 60 tackles (23 solo and 37 assisted), seven tackles for losses, five sacks and one pass defense.
Last season, Christian Gass recorded 68 tackles, including 11 tackles for loss and two sacks.
