Five-star safety Jonah Williams can excel in all three phases, but especially defense and special teams. The standout remains a key commit to the Texas Longhorns 2025 class since giving his pledge on Aug. 24.
However, as with many top recruits, other major programs have continued to pursue Williams despite his pledge. Steve Wiltfong of On3 said multiple other programs are in the mix for him, but "LSU is right in the middle of it."
The Tigers' track record of developing elite safeties and sending them to the NFL may trigger him to flip. Alabama and Oregon also remain in the hunt for the five-star safety.
In an interview with Marshall Levenson of Rivals, Williams reaffirmed his loyalty to the Longhorns:
"It'll take a lot for me to take my chances with visiting any other school. Right now, I'm pretty locked in with Texas. It'll really take a lot for me to flip."
This weekend, Williams will return to Austin for the first time since his commitment to watch the Longhorns face Mississippi State. He will be joined by fellow recruits, including Florida State commit Daylan McCutcheon and prospects like Joseph Mbatchou, Walter Mathis and Malcolm Simpson.
Williams' official visit to Texas is scheduled for Oct. 19, when the Longhorns host the Georgia Bulldogs. Several other top recruits, like Michael Terry III and Javion Hilson, are also expected to attend that matchup.
Jonah Williams is the highest-rated prospect in the Texas 2025 class, which also features blue-chip prospects like Jaime Ffrench, Kaliq Lockett and Lance Jackson. He also stands out as a multi-sport athlete, as he excels in baseball and can potentially suit up for Texas baseball as well. He also plays basketball and posted times in the 200-meter dash during his junior year.
A sneak peek into Jonah Williams senior season
In 2022, Jonah Williams was named Texas District 9-5A D-I Overall MVP as a sophomore, followed by the Defensive Player of the Year honor in 2023. Now, in 2024, he's proving his talents on both sides of the ball with even more dominance.
In Galveston Ball's season opener on Aug. 29, Williams contributed to the Tornadoes' 54-26 victory with five total touchdowns (two rushing and two receiving and one on a kick return).
Throughout four games in the season, he recorded 19 tackles (13 solo and six assisted), one interception and two pass defenses, while also contributing on offense with 273 yards and six touchdowns.
Jonah Williams' Ball Tornadoes remain undefeated, at 4-0, including a commanding 54-17 win against Westside on Friday. The school faces Sterling on Sept. 26 as it looks to maintain its dominance.
