2027 class quarterback Trae Taylor, from Carmel Catholic High School in Illinois, is emerging as one of the most promising prospects in the 2027 recruiting class. With several years remaining until national signing day, Taylor is taking his time to explore his options and familiarize himself with various college programs.

Michigan is one of the few schools to secure multiple visits from the talented signal-caller. Just two weeks ago, Taylor returned to Ann Arbor for his 11th visit to attend Michigan's annual BBQ at The Big House.

In an interview with The Wolverine, Trae Taylor shared his thoughts on the visit and his growing relationship with Michigan’s coaching staff.

“I was able to once again work with Coach Campbell and really get to actually sit down and see what their offense looks like in some meetings. This is my second time back with the new coaching staff, so I’m still getting to know everybody that’s different there a little bit. But overall, it’s always a good time when I get to go to Michigan.”

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound quarterback also had the opportunity to show his skills during drill instruction, throwing in front of offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell and even connecting with Michigan's 2026 commit Brady Hart.

“I was able to (hang out with) the guys that I know from Michigan and then meet other people outside of Michigan,” Taylor added. “Even kids from my own state, which is good to see, especially with Illinois, considering it’s not being a super big hotbed for football. I’m glad that there are kids in Illinois turning that around.”

Trae Taylor is still finding his potential fit in the Michigan program and understanding the dynamics under new head coach Sherrone Moore remains a priority. Nine of his visits occurred while Jim Harbaugh was still the head coach, so this transition is crucial for Taylor to evaluate the program's direction.

But Taylor believes that Moore’s previous success as offensive coordinator bodes well for Michigan’s future.

What will Trae Taylor look for in programs before announcing his commitment?

Trae Taylor received offers from Colorado, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Illinois and Ole Miss, among others. The signal-caller is still far away from his commitment, but he has been clear about what he seeks in a program.

“If the personnel is right around me then we’ll always have a chance to win,” Taylor told On3. “I’m also looking at life after football and how the academics can help me down the road.”

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Michigan currently leads the race for Taylor’s commitment with a 40.2% chance of landing him. Ohio State follows with a 19.3% chance, while Maryland and Illinois trail with 8.4% and 4.7%, respectively.
