Mantrez Walker, a four-star linebacker from Buford, Georgia, pledged his allegiance to the Colorado Buffaloes on April 27. He chose the Buffs over other top programs such as LSU, Ole Miss, Miami and Penn State.
Coach Deion Sanders managed to pick Walker up with the help of the Buffs' incoming position coach, Andre’ Hart. He is yet to join the team but revealed he will do so for practices ahead of the Alamo Bowl.
"Well, actually I get to leave the 19th to go up to Boulder. And then I get to practice with a team for the bowl game. You know, so I am excited for that, but I officially move in on January 9, so it's around the corner."
Walker had a fantastic final season with Buford as he recorded 60 total tackles and one sack en route to helping his team go 12-2 this year. In his three seasons with the Wolves, the Buford native has tallied 119 total tackles.
Walker spoke about his commitment to Colorado
Walker signed with the Colorado Buffaloes on national signing day and became one of the program's 14 signees from the class of 2025. He shed light on his decision to join Sanders' program.
"What made them right was that they made it clear to me that I was there No. 1 guy and that they feel like I can come in there system and make an impact early," the four-star prospect said, as per On3.
He further spoke about his relationships with the coaching staff in Boulder.
"I’ve built great relationships with guys on the staff and Coach Hart and I have a great relationship," Mantrez Walker said, as per On3. "I just think that I can build lifelong relationships with NFL background coaches that will help me for a lifetime."
