Shedeur Sanders wanted five-star quarterback Julian Lewis as his successor in Colorado and got his wish granted as well. As Sanders is heading to the NFL, the Buffaloes fans would be trusting in Lewis to continue the legacy of Sanders.
Lewis shared a heartfelt post on X showing his new No. 10 jersey next to Sanders' iconic No. 2, and accompanying the image was a powerful caption:
"You left huge shoes to fill, but I promise to work to leave @CUBuffsFootball even better than I found it. Forever grateful 🙏🏽 #TrustGod #TrustTheProcess."
The sentiment came on the heels of Colorado’s 36-14 loss to BYU in the Valero Alamo Bowl, where Sanders finished his college career with 208 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions on 16-of-23 passing. Despite the defeat, Sanders’ impact on the program remains undeniable.
Colorado fans stormed into the comment section to uplift Lewis' spirit to lead the new Colorado, which found renewed energy with Deion Sanders' leadership as well as Shedeur and Travis Hunter's phenomenal duo.
"Let's get it. You and the other guys are starting a new era at CU. It's now your time QB1," a fan said.
"Thank you for being solid 10," one fan said.
"We can’t wait for you to start your legacy buff nation has your back!" another fan said.
"In Juju We Trust," one fan said.
From being committed to USC for nearly a year and being Lincoln Riley's future QB1 to changing his suits for Colorado to play under Deion Sanders, Lewis' recruitment journey has been one of the most dramatic things in the 2025 class. Despite forgoing his senior season by reclassifying, his career stats include 11,010 passing yards, 144 touchdown passes and 736 completions.
"JuJu Buffs are SO HAPPY you are a Buff!!💛🖤#skobuffs," one wrote.
"So excited to see what you’ll accomplish as a Buff!!!#gobuffs," one wrote.
Lewis' predecessor, Sanders, is expected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, possibly by the New York Giants. Meanwhile, he will lead the new Buffaloes squad from the next season. After closing the 2024 season with a 7-3 record in the Big 12 and a 9-4 overall record, fans would expect Colorado to continue shining in Deion Sanders' third season next year with Lewis at the helm.
Will Julian Lewis be Colorado's QB1 next season?
Though Julian Lewis is a five-star quarterback and ended his high school career with a great stat, Kaidon Salter, a transfer from Liberty, is expected to take over for Shedeur Sanders in 2025, as per Bleacher Report's David Kenyon.
Salter guided Liberty to a Conference USA title and a Fiesta Bowl appearance last year. This season, he led the Flames to an 8-3 record, including a 5-3 mark in conference play. He threw for 5,887 yards, 56 touchdowns and 17 interceptions throughout four seasons with the program.
Kenyon labeled Lewis as the "perceived" quarterback of the future for Colorado. He is the No. 1 recruit in Georgia and the No. 2 quarterback in the 2025 class, as per ESPN. Carrollton High School coach Joey King said he is in the same category as the Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence, which speaks volumes about his caliber.
