Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe built an impressive foundation during his high school career at Tompkins High School in Katy, Texas. Over three seasons, Milroe established himself as a formidable player, setting the stage for his future success in college football.
Milroe's junior year in 2019 was particularly remarkable, as he passed for 2,689 yards and 29 touchdowns while also showcasing his dual-threat ability by rushing for 300 yards and adding seven touchdowns on the ground.
Even though his senior season in 2020 was shorter than expected, it still had a significant impact. Milroe passed for 1,257 yards and 13 touchdowns. His high school career totals include 3,825 passing yards, 559 rushing yards as well as a total of 53 touchdowns (running and passing).
One of the standout moments of Jalen Milroe's high school career was leading his school to an undefeated regular season during his senior year. A defining game came when he guided his team to a victory over the powerhouse Katy High School, ending their 75-game district winning streak. Tompkins achieved over 30 wins during his time there.
Milroe's passion for football was evident from a young age. As he once shared:
“I loved watching football with my family, so I decided to play. ... On the field, I plan to be a dynamic player and a positive influence on the team. Most importantly, I will conduct myself with integrity on and off the field." [H/T NCSA Sports]
Initially committed to Texas, Jalen Milroe eventually chose the University of Alabama, drawn by the opportunity to play under Nick Saban.
Jalen Milroe’s leadership and performance propel Alabama’s upcoming season
Milroe has proven himself both on and off the field. As the Crimson Tide wrapped up their preseason, offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan highlighted Milroe’s dedication and leadership:
"He's as hard of a working player as I've ever been around. He's a completely committed, devoted student-athlete in all areas. His teammates respect that. And I think he's becoming more and more comfortable, even in our time here, of using his voice to encourage, to confront, to demand. Because he's certainly putting in the time and the work." Jalen Milroe's natural leadership and unwavering work ethic earned him the role of team captain, alongside Tyler Booker, Malachi Moore and Deontae Lawson. Among them, Milroe has emerged as a key leader, especially on offense.
"He's done a real nice job of that, and we're going to need that as we continue with both him and Tyler being leaders on that side of the ball," Sheridan said [H/T Tide Sports].
Jalen Milroe rose on the field and finished with an exceptional 2023 season, taking Alabama to a record of 12–1 and an SEC Championship. During the SEC title game, he delivered 192 yards and two touchdowns, in a close 27–24 win over Georgia.
Finishing the season with 23 passing touchdowns, 2,718 passing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns, Milroe’s impact was undeniable, despite Alabama’s 27–20 overtime loss to Michigan in the Rose Bowl.
