Long Island Lutheran will be competing in this year's Jordan Holiday Classic, and the team will finally be getting its star player, Kiyan Anthony, back from injury after a nasty fall. Made Hoops is hyping up the upcoming tournament this weekend with a video featuring players from LuHi, including four-star Penn State commit Kayden Mingo.
Kayden Mingo, the older brother of Long Island Lutheran's five-star point guard Dylan Mingo, opened up about his feelings for his school and team ahead of the Jordan Holiday Classic at Baruch College in New York City.
"Watching LuHi, before I got here in middle school, seeing what they do in they past, their history, it's been excellent," said the Long Island Lutheran combo guard. (8:20-8:27)
Mingo has played at Long Island Lutheran for all four years of his high school life and praised the program at the school.
"You know, it's been a real blessing to be here for all four years and continue to grow and see how the program has elevated all throughout. As a fourth year guy, just being a leader. Playing my game, whatever it takes, defending scoring, passing, just whatever it takes to win really, and bringing guys with me especially the younger guys, also the older guys who you know have been playing along my side for a while"
Kayden, along with little brother Dylan, have carried Long Island Lutheran in Kiyan Anthony's absence, especially during last weekend's City of Palms Classic where Dylan was named Player of the Game multiple times. LuHi did not win that tournament but impressed with a 2-1 record even without its star player.
Who will Long Island Lutheran face during the Jordan Holiday Classic?
LuHi is expected to face the toughest team in the three-day event, and that is the Christopher Columbus High School Explorers. The team is led by three five-star players in Cameron Boozer, Cayden Boozer and Caleb Gaskins, as well as four-star Jaxon Richardson.
The Explorers have not lost since losing its season opener against Prolific Prep last month, including winning the City of Palms Classic last Sunday over defending national champions Montverde Academy. The game was close, with Columbus escaping its eternal rival by just two points, 59-57.
