For the national team, Kaleena Smith attended the 2024 USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team minicamp in Portland, Oregon, and was selected for the 2024 USA Women’s U17 National Team on May 5, 2024, after trials in Colorado Springs, CO.

Brandon Clay, Director of Scouting, Women's Basketball of 247Sports, described Kaleena Smith as a true lead guard:

"Her ability to score has never been in question, but Smith showed that her court vision is a major strength during the trials. She had the feel of a player who could make this roster as a true lead guard, and she proceeded to do just that."

What motivates Kaleena Smith?

At 5-foot-5, Kaleena Smith is an undersized guard. However, while speaking with On3, Smith reiterated that size does not matter and that she continues to work on her game regularly:

“Everybody doubts me or looks over me,” Smith told On3. “So I really have to prove myself and prove that I can play. Size doesn’t matter in this game.”
“I’m just really grinding,” Smith said. “I’m staying in the gym, staying humble and using my gift from God.”

With two more years to decide on her collegiate career, Kaleena Smith has plenty of offers from top programs including South Carolina, UConn, and more already.
