Four-star running back Jace Clarizio has remained committed to Michigan State for six months now. However, Kalen DeBoer's Alabama entered his recruitment by extending an offer to him for the Crimson Tide's 2025 class.
The Alabama offer reportedly came partly due to the influence of Chris Kapilovic, Alabama’s new offensive line coach, who previously coached at Michigan State. Kapilovic is well-versed in Clarizio’s abilities and has kept tabs on the prospect since leaving East Lansing.
Clarizio announced the offer on X, tagging Kapilovic and Alabama running back coach Robert Gillespie.
"Bama offered !! @BAMACoachG @CoachCKap @RisingStars6 @AllenTrieu @EL_Trojans_FB"
In May, Clarizio became the fifth commitment of Michigan State's 2025 recruiting class for coach Jonathan Smith in his first full cycle as the Spartans coach. Retaining Clarizio is crucial as the school looks to build a strong 2025 class. With only 15 players committed, the class ranks 49th nationally (On3).
Clarizio is ranked in the On3 Industry Rankings as the No. 448 overall prospect in the nation, No. 34 running back in the 2025 class and No. 8 recruit in Michigan.
What is next for Jace Clarizio following the Alabama offer?
Jace Clarizio expressed to 247Sports that he is considering the Alabama offer but faces challenges in scheduling visits. As East Lansing prepares for the second round of the state playoffs after a 6-3 regular season, finding time for an out-of-state visit will likely have to wait until postseason play concludes.
Comparing the two programs, Clarizio has a lot to consider. While Michigan State is the home-state option, the Spartans are currently struggling with a 4-5 record, including two back-to-back losses. Meanwhile, Alabama boasts a 6-2 record under new coach Kalen DeBoer.
The Crimson Tide’s recruiting class already includes commitments from two top-tier running backs, 4-stars Akylin Dear and Anthony Rogers. However, Rogers is set to visit Ohio State this weekend and also made trips to other programs this season. A potential flip of him could shift Alabama's interest further toward Clarizio.
For now, Clarizio’s recruitment with Alabama remains in a wait-and-see phase, and a visit to Tuscaloosa might offer the clarity he needs to make a decision.
