Four-star prospect Rashad Johnson, from South Sumter High School in Bushnell, Florida, committed to Georgia's 2025 recruiting class. The safety announced the decision on Sunday, choosing head coach Kirby Smart's program over Penn State, Louisville and Texas A&M, among others.
Johnson received over 20 offers and saw Georgia enter the recruiting race on June 3. The Bulldogs hosted him for an official visit from June 14–16.
Despite taking an official visit to Texas A&M the following weekend, Johnson was ultimately swayed by the prospect of playing for Smart's program. He had initially planned to announce his commitment on July 1 but postponed it until this past Sunday.
“Out of all of my schools, Georgia fit me the best,” Johnson said ( via On3). “I felt the most comfortable at Georgia and with the Georgia coaches. I love the coaches, the fit into the defense, how the defensive scheme fits me and Georgia’s style of play. It was just the right place for me.”
Johnson impressed the Georgia staff by running between a high 4.4 and a low 4.5 in the 40-yard dash. This performance boosted the Bulldogs' interest in him. Although Georgia's offer came late, Johnson had always held the Bulldogs in high regard.
“Georgia has always been a school toward the top of my list. It is a top program that I have had an interest in for a long time. After they saw my film and had me in camp, we set up the official visit and I loved it," he added.
In the spring, defensive coordinator Glenn Shumann visited Johnson at his high school. Safety coach Travaris Robinson, who coached Johnson's cousin Keanu Neal at Florida, had been recruiting him since his tenure at Alabama.
Rashad Johnson is rated as the No. 29 safety and the No. 53 overall recruit in Florida for the 2025 class, according to On3. 247 Sports places him as the No. 24 safety and the No. 33 overall recruit in the class.
Rashad Johnson reveals discussion with Georgia staff about his potential spot
With his commitment, Rashad Johnson became the second safety to commit to Georgia's 2025 class in the last week, joining four-star Jaylan Morgan. He is also the fourth defensive back commit in the class, joining Todd Robinson, Shamari Earls and Morgan.
With an already star-studded current defensive room, Johnson had discussions with Georgia’s coaching staff regarding his role on the team.
“I was talking to coach, they have four safeties that could be leaving,” Johnson told Dawg HQ. “They have Malaki Starks and three other seniors. I’d play the star position and the safety position.”
During his junior season, Johnson recorded 59 tackles, six tackles for loss, one sack, seven pass breakups, an interception and a forced fumble, while also recording 209 yards and three touchdowns on nine catches as a wide receiver.
Georgia's 2025 class now has 20 commitments, which currently ranks No. 3 nationally, trailing behind Ohio State and Alabama.
