On Thursday, Kiyan Anthony's mom, La La Anthony, shared glimpses of her 7th annual Winter Wonderland charity event in the Bronx County. The event took place at The Gaucho Gym in Mott Haven and was sponsored by Delsym.
She shared glimpses from the charity event on Instagram. In an interview with The Blast, she spoke about this annual tradition.
"This year I'm having my 7th annual Winter Wonderland charity event, which we do in the Bronx, NY, and we give Christmas to 400 inner city kids, which is so powerful and something that I'm so passionate about," she said.
"We have performances, dance battles, we have dinner together. We give out gifts and clothing and winter coats and just a lot of amazing things for the kids."
In an interview with The Knockturnal, she spoke about family and traditions.
She partnered with Girls Inc. and the NYC Police Athletic League for this event. In an interview with The Knockturnal, she spoke about the importance of these organizations.
"Unfortunately, now in a lot of the neighborhoods that we grew up in, you don’t have like YMCAs anymore," she said. ... "So I’m very supportive of those organizations because they provide a safe haven for kids to be productive, be creative and do great things."
La La Anthony and Carmelo Anthony reveal why they named their son Kiyan
Last month, in an episode of the "7PM in Brooklyn" podcast, the ex-couple discussed the decision behind their son's name. The young player's full name is Kiyan Carmelo Anthony, but his parents have always called him Kiyan. They wanted to ease the pressure of living up to his father’s legacy.
"Mel and I strategically made the decision not to name him Carmelo Anthony," she said. ... "So we did a little twist there but we did that on purpose so he can form his own lane and be his own person and do things his way."
Kiyan Anthony is ranked No. 36 in the ESPN 100, and last month, he committed to Syracuse.
