Long Island Lutheran High School basketball star Dylan Mingo has said that he would only choose a college that fits his style of game when he eventually commits to a school for college basketball next year.
Mingo is one of the top prospects in the high school basketball class of 2026, with the 6-foot-4 point guard ranked 11th nationally, 1st in New York and second in his position as per On3 rankings.
The Brookville, New York native is on the radar of many colleges including Cincinnati, Dayton, Florida State, Missouri, Ole Miss, Providence, St. John's, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, Washington, Alabama, Illinois Oklahoma State and Syracuse, among others.
But while he is generating a lot of interest, Mingo is in no rush to make his decision as he will only sign for a team that plays his style of game and also take his relationship with the coaching staff into account.
"Having a good bond with the coaching staff and a strong relationship with the head coach will be important for me,” he said. “I want to be apart of a winning culture that produces pros. I want to go to a school that fits me and my style of play.”
"I want to play in an offense that fits my style," Mingo added. I want to be a part of an organization that lets their guards play and get downhill. I want to play in a system that really plays defense and consistently has a high-level defense,” he added.
Mingo could link up with Kiyan Anthony in Syracuse
Although Mingo has not made any decision regarding college basketball, he could give consideration to Syracuse as his teammate at LUHI, Kiyan Anthony, son of Carmelo Anthony, is heading JMA Wireless Dome for college basketball.
However, as per On3 predictions, St. John's is currently the slight favorite, given a 12.1% chance of signing the point guard.
Mingo and Anthony have been brilliant for LuHi this season, although the 6-foot-4 star and his brother Kayden kept LuHi competitive while the son of Carmelo was out due to an injury.
Nonetheless, for now, Mingo’s immediate focus is on the AAU circuit with the PSA Cardinals in Nike’s Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL).
The 6-foot-4 shooting guard showed out last spring on the circuit, averaging 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game for the 16U squad of the PSA Cardinals.
