Four-star wide receiver Devin Carter committed to Auburn on Saturday during the U.S. Navy All-American Bowl. The standout from Douglas County High School (Georgia) chose Hugh Freeze's program over LSU, Georgia, Miami, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Alabama, Notre Dame, Texas and Florida State, among others.
Following his commitment, Carter gave a shout-out to Auburn's 2025 quarterback signee, Deuce Knight, saying:
"Deuce Knight. I’m coming to work, we’re gonna make greatness on the Plains."
Knight also sent his response to Carter's message, writing in an X post:
"Know we locked lil brudda @IDEVINCARTER."
Carter is the No. 6 wide receiver in the 2026 class and the No. 4 recruit in Georgia, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He was initially committed to Florida State but backed off his pledge last year.
Carter’s high school journey started at Cedar Grove High School in Georgia before transferring to Douglas County for his junior season. In his junior year, he had an impressive performance, recording 41 catches for 669 yards and five touchdowns.
Devin Carter is the son of former Florida State running back Dexter Carter, a first-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers in the 1990 NFL draft, and the younger brother of former Georgia Southern wide receiver, Dexter Carter Jr.
Devin Carter opens up about his commitment to Auburn
Wide receivers coach Marcus Davis recruited Devin Carter at Auburn and has kept the relationship strong since then. Even Hugh Freeze also played a key role in keeping the prospect engaged by sending him regular texts every Friday night before his games. These interactions ultimately helped the Tigers to secure Carter's commitment.
“Their culture stands out to me,” Carter told On3. “Every time I go there, it’s like family. I feel very welcome and I’m always attended to when I need to be attended to. I value that and they value the relationship that I’m building with them.”
Despite Auburn's 2024 season ending with a 5-7 record, Carter remains optimistic about the Tigers' future.
“What interests me the most is how close they’re losing these games because they could quickly turn them into wins next year with focus, coming around and building the culture even more there,” Carter said. “I feel like that’s what they’re doing. They’re building something special, for sure."
With Carter's commitment, Auburn has six committed players in the 2026 class, ranking No. 5 in the nation. He joins four-star prospect Denairius Gray in the wide receiver room.
