“Kobe Bryant would’ve just popped it back in place”: Hoops fans react as 5’7 Romelo Hill dislocates his finger

Romelo Hill, Class of 2026 guard and son of American singer, rapper, songwriter, and actress Monica Denise Arnold suffered a painful injury during RWE's 84-74 win against Diamond Doves on Wednesday. The official page of Overtime Elite shared the video of Hill's injury.

The injury happened when Doves led 34-32 with 55 seconds left on the clock as Romelo Hill tried to poke the ball lose from Dove's player but ended up dislocating his finger instead.

Hoops fans commented on the post, comparing Hill's injury with Kobe Bryant's dislocated finger during the Los Angeles Lakers' match against the San Antonio Spurs in 2016. Sympathy seemed to be at a premium and some didn't realize he had returned to the game:

One fan said, "Kobe would’ve just popped it back in place🤷‍♂️"
"And so did Kobe pop it back in and get in the game," another commented.
Another fan said, "Brush it off like Kobe bro."
"Kobe don't crying," one fan said.

Some fans were in solidarity with Romelo Hill as they shared their own experiences with similar injuries:

"Happened to me twice. It’s lowkey not bad at all super easy to pop back in just makes shooting much harder for the rest of the game because the finder feels weak and a bit swollen," commented a fan.
This fan was surprised that Hill came back into the game, "Daamn, that looks nasty. And what a way to get injured too, I feel bad for him. I'm surprised he came back out to play tho, young man never give up!! I hope you get well as soon as possible and show them moves again.consistency is key and you're tough asl, let's get it yg."
Another fan shared their experience, "Both my middle fingers are permanently crooked from playing basketball. They hurt really bad but luckily they heal a lot faster than a knee, wrist, or ankle."

Romelo Hill came back into the game after the injury

RWE's Instagram page posted another video on Friday featuring the players as they asked them to predict their stats. Hill was also asked how many assists he would have:

"I had four last game, I will try to go for five," said Hill.

The video also shared Hill coming back after the injury and scoring two points. Hill has played 11 matches for RWE. The 5-foot-7 guard is averaging 4.3 points on 35.3% shooting including 45.5% from the 3-point line, grabbing 1.6 rebounds, dishing out 1.9 assists and 0.9 steals per contest in 19.4 minutes per game.

For RWE, Hill scored two double-digit outings as he scored 10 points against Diamond Doves on Jan. 12 and 10 points against Blue Checks on Dec. 14.

While the Atlanta, GA native has no offers yet, according to 247Sports, he has one more year before he decides on his collegiate career.
