Five-star recruit Gunner Rivers, the son of NFL legend Philip Rivers, is ranked as the second-best player in Alabama and the fourth quarterback in the Class of 2027, according to 247Sports Composite.

On Thursday, the 6-foot-2 player from St. Michael Catholic High School in Fairhope, Alabama, received his first Southeastern Conference scholarship offer from Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers. In May, he received an offer from his father's alma mater, NC State, as well.

According to WKRG, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer and offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Nick Sheridan as well as Auburn quarterbacks coach Kent Austin and wide receivers coach Marcus Davis have also seen Rivers. Texas A&M defensive line coach Tony Jerod-Eddie saw him as well.

In August, Gunner landed 64 in the Class of 2027 rankings by 247Sports.

In an X post, ML Football tweeted about Rivers.

"Gunner was a Freshman All-American & has shown many similarities to his dad," the post read.

Philip Rivers praises Gunner Rivers, calls him a 'pocket passer'

In an interview with AL.com, Philip Rivers reminisced about the time when Auburn offered him a spot 25 years ago when he was a quarterback at Athens (Alabama) High, and now, after more than two decades, the Tigers seek his eldest son, Gunner Rivers as well.

“He’s pretty much who he is going to be," Rivers said. "Gunner is a pocket passer that runs well enough. He will end up being 6-(foot-)3 or 6-4 and about 220 pounds. He’s real humble about it all. He doesn’t love all the attention."

Under the tutelage of his dad and head coach, Gunner Rivers played 11 games as a freshman, covering 3,077 yards and 29 touchdowns.

In July 2023, in another interview with Philip, he expressed pride in his son's debut season.

"It was a really strong first year for him in varsity football,” Philip Rivers told AL.com. “He handled everything that came with it well, from the pressure to the competition.
"Looking back, it’s clear how much he’s grown and matured over the past year, not just as a player but as a person. It’s exciting to think we have three more years ahead."

Upping his game in sophomore year, Gunner played 14 games, covering 3,947 yards and 36 touchdowns. Aside from Auburn and NC State, Gunner Rivers has received offers from South Carolina, Miami and Boston College.
