2024 is officially over, and MaxPreps celebrated the New Year by releasing its top high school athletes of the year. However, the list was not based on how good these athletes were, but on how many views their respective pages on the website received in 2024. It featured top athletes such as Cooper Flagg, who was playing for Montverde Academy until last summer, as well as Bryce James.
The Woodlands Christian Academy linebacker and Twitch/YouTube star Kylie Cox, best known as Sketch, had the most visited page on MaxPreps last year, followed by Flagg, who now plays for the Duke Blue Devils. Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry came in third, while the son of LeBron, Bryce James, came in fourth. Three-star Wyoming commit Grayson Rigdon rounded out the top five.
The list also featured which schools had the most page visits, with MaxPreps revealing that it is Mater Dei, which is the No. 1 team in football right now, and its basketball team is not doing too badly. Perrenial football favorites and eternal rivals Duncanville and DeSoto are ranked second and third.
Two other teams that are doing well in basketball and football also make up the No. 4 and the No, 5 slots in IMG Academy and St. John Bosco respectively.
Cox has long graduated from high school and went to Mississippi State. However, he left academics and began working in real estate before he started his streaming career in 2023 where he found internet fame. His 1.4 million followers have made their presence felt, visiting his MaxPreps page and catapulting him to the No. 1 spot.
Bryce James and Sierra Canyon ended 2024 with upset loss to Santa Barbara
Bryce James' school, Sierra Canyon, is a perennial powerhouse in Southern California and is considered one of the top basketball schools in the country. On Monday, Sierra Canyon got upset by Santa Barbara with a final score of 75-74.
The game went down to the wire, with Santa Barbara's best player, unranked and unstarred Luke Zuffelato, sinking a dagger three-pointer at the buzzer. Sierra Canyon, filled with four-star and three-star talent, was leading 74-72 with just 2.8 seconds remaining in the clock. This was when Zuffelato hit that three and gave Sierra Canyon its third loss of the season.
Bryce James scored nine points in the ball game, all of which came from behind the arc and during the second half.
