Four-star St. John Bosco small forward Elzie Harrington shocked many by flipping his commitment from Harvard to USC. This means that he is staying in Southern California. The news got the attention of Sierra Canyon shooting guard Bryce James, son of LeBron James.
Bryce, whose Sierra Canyon team is not scheduled to face off against Elzie Harrington and the St. John Bosco Braves this season, had a positive reaction to Harrington's decision.
"Yessirskii."
While Bryce James has not received an official offer from USC, the school has expressed interest in him, especially since USC is his brother Bronny's alma mater. For now, he has official offers from Duquesne and Ohio State.
As for Elzie Harrington, the On3 Industry Rankings have him as the No. 50-ranked prospect in the Class of 2025 and the No. 13-ranked shooting guard. On3's Jamie Shaw noted that the forward can shoot from beyond the arc and is great when playing a half-court game. He is also a good off-ball defender.
Elzie Harrington on his flip from Harvard to USC
Harrington had been committed to Harvard since June. However, he had not yet signed with the school, making the flip possible. He revealed his decision on New Year's Eve and spoke to On3's Joe Tipton, noting that it was because of Trojans coach Eric Musselman:
“Musselman is great at coaching and developing big guards. I think he’ll challenge and get the best out of me everyday and that’s something that is really important.”
Harrington will join four-star guard Jerry Easter at USC, and 247Sports noted that both players would fit well in coach Messelman's program. Both of them are streaky shooters from deep and are good additions to Musselman's preference for position-less basketball.
USC is expected to have a lot of new blood next season, as a majority of its current roster is expected to be ineligible by the end of the season. By getting Harrington, who can also play guard, the Trojans are getting a scorer who averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game over nine matchups this season.
