Bill Belichick, the former NFL head coach, will take charge of the North Carolina Tar Heels next season. He signed with the program on Dec. 11 and is working towards forming a competent support staff.
He is looking at the high school circuit to fill some vacancies. On Wednesday, CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz reported that IMG Academy's head coach, Billy Miller, is one of Belichick's biggest targets.
Miller has been with the IMG Academy Ascenders since 2014 and led the program to a national championship last year. The Ascenders have only lost seven games during Miller's tenure.
Miller has a strong resume, as he was an assistant special teams coach with Rutgers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He worked under Belichick for a brief period at the New England Patriots.
Landing Miller will be a huge boost for Belichick heading into his first season at the college level. It will also help him during the recruiting cycle as IMG Academy produces some of the best prospects.
Billy Miller led the IMG Academy Ascenders to a 7-2 record this season
The IMG Academy Ascenders came into 2024 on the back of a national championship run in 2023. However, their start to this season wasn't ideal as they lost their opener against the Corner Canyon Chargers, 35-34.
They quickly recovered and went on a six-game win streak, which saw them beat Mandarin, Cocoa and East St. Louis. The program suffered its second and final loss of the season against the St. Frances Academy Panthers on Nov. 1.
Billy Miller rejuvenated his team and led them to a win against the St. Thomas More Chancellors in their next game. It was a dominant 28-7 victory, orchestrated by freshman quarterback Jayden Wade and senior wide receiver Raiden Vines-bright.
Wade finished the game with 221 passing yards and 92 rushing yards while scoring four total touchdowns. He finished with a quarterback rating of 129.9. Vaines-bright, on the other hand, racked up 143 yards on seven receptions and scored a couple of touchdowns.
IMG Academy ended the season as the 17th-best team in the country, per MaxPreps.
