Deuce Knight, a four-star quarterback from George County High School, announced his commitment to the Notre Dame Irish in September last year. The 6-foot-5 athlete from Lucedale, Mississippi chose the Irish over other top programs such as Ole Miss, Tennessee, Auburn, and Alabama among others.
However, there is a strong chance that the four-star recruit will flip his commitment to the Auburn Tigers, per On3's Steve Wiltfong. Hugh Freeze and company have already flipped a couple of high-profile high school athletes, like defensive lineman Antonio Coleman and wide receiver Derick Smith from Alabama.
The Irish fans were not happy with the news they took to Twitter to express their displeasure with the situation.
"That’s it. The program is over. 2025 class is going to fall apart and it’s too late to rebuild. The Freeman era was fun for a while, but wasn’t built to last. Pioneer League here we come. No point anymore," one fan lamented.
Some fans insinuated that Knight is thinking about decommitting solely because of monetary gains.
"Its a professional league now. Cash is king," one fan commented.
"Money talks," another wrote.
"He gone$," one fan wrote.
Deuce Knight is ranked as the no. 38 overall prospect from the class of 2025 and is the seventh-best quarterback in the country, according to On3 Industry Rankings. He is also the third-best overall recruit from the state of Mississippi.
Deuce Knight signs historic NIL deal with Leaf Trading Cards
Deuce Knight signed a historic NIL deal with Leaf Trading Cards last month. The Notre Dame commit became one of the first high schoolers from the state of Mississippi to do so. Mississippi held out for a long time against the NIL, but the state eventually changed the law and has now allowed its athletes to pursue NIL deals.
Knight talked about his deal in a phone call with On3 and described it as "life-changing."
"I didn’t think it was going to happen in Mississippi," the 6-foot-4.5 quarterback told On3. "I really didn’t think they were going to pass this law. I thought it would eventually come, my coach said it was going to come, but I didn’t think it would happen when I was still in high school. It’s big for me and the athletes in this state."
Knight became the latest high school player to ink a deal with the trading card company. Other athletes include USC quarterback commit Julian Lewis, Florida quarterback DJ Lagway and Tennessee quarterback commit George MacIntyre.
Deuce Knight is one of the best quarterbacks from the class of 2025. He has received offers from some of the best programs such as Auburn, Alabama, South Carolina, Miami, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, and Indiana.
