Laura Govan knows a lot about being a basketball mom. After all, she raised basketball standouts Himley, Aloni, Izela and Alijah Arenas. She channeled this to cheer on her nephew, Kenny Burns, who put up a massive performance during his return game after being out for a year due to injury.
She tagged his mother Jessica Burns in her Instagram story to cheer him on.
"You're mama said it best... The work is working... @mrsjessicaburns Let's Go Nephew @ken3urns," she wrote in the captions.
Burns is a 6-3 junior guard who missed a year of playtime for the Spartanburg Methodist College Pioneers because of a torn ACL. He scored 30 points during the Pioneers' game against Campbellsville and was six out of ten from behind the arc. The guard also had seven assists that game.
After returning from his injury, he immediately went to work, averaging 15.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. He had been working hard to return to form since his ACL injury and started working out as soon as he was cleared.
Laura Govan says ex, Gilbert Arenas, does not 'play fair' when co-parenting their kids
Three weeks ago, the former reality TV star sat down with Carlos King for an interview and opened up about her ex and former NBA star Gilbert Arenas. The two have a rocky relationship. Among the things she talked about is co-parenting with the former All-Star, who often slams her in public.
"“Gilbert, play fair. I’ve always given you the title of fatherhood; I’ve never taken it away," she said. (40:27)
Govan and the former Washington Wizards star butted heads whenever it came to child support, with Arenas claiming he paid too much and even had the child support payments lowered to $7,000 per month. Govan argued the amount is not adequate to cover essentials like education and daily needs.
"They don’t need chains," she said. "My son had a chain with diamonds in them. What we doing? How about you pay for his school? How about you buy them shoes?” (56:48)
The two have been feuding since they separated in 2014. However, they often had to make things work out for their four kids, even though there have been plenty of lawsuits thrown between both sides because of this.
