Kentucky signee Acaden Lewis' mom, Nateya Pompeo, shared an emotional post on Wednesday to commemorate her son's commitment to the Wildcats. The Instagram post featured 20 photos and videos from Lewis' commitment day in November.
She added a lengthy emotional caption reflecting on Lewis' basketball journey.
"UK 💙💙 The Commitment Day. A day in November 2024 that will always hold 19 years of a family story, struggle and everyday journey behind it that now led to this very moment. Like, who knew?
"The presence love and support that was felt in those moments when everyone fused and locked in inside that gym. ... Thank you to the ones that stood behind my baby to guide him to get here, and each of you know who you are to us."
Pompeo played a crucial part in Lewis' upbringing. She balanced her career ambitions with the dedication required to raise her son, who she co-parented with Lewis' dad, Jarrett Lewis. Specifically, she had to step away from full-time bartending, opting for spinning records as a DJ to be more present for her son.
Today, under the stage name DJ Farrah Flosscett, she's one of the most sought-after DJs in D.C. and beyond.
Acaden Lewis shared the reason for joining Kentucky
The 6-foot-2 point guard will join the Kentucky Wildcats next season. He chose Kentucky over top collegiate programs like Duke, Syracuse, Michigan, Tennessee, UConn, Auburn, Georgetown, UVA and UNC.
In November, Lewis explained that one of the key reasons for his commitment was the opportunity to play a significant role early under coach Mark Pope.
"I feel like the opportunity is there to start and play a priority role early as their point guards are all leaving," Lewis told ESPN. ... "I love the system they run. It's fast-paced and allows guards to make reads and run the team, and allows freedom while still having rules."
While Lewis looks forward to donning the Wildcats jersey next season, he occupies a major role for his high school side, the Sidwell Friends Quakers (Washington, DC). He's been quite instrumental in their 5-2 record this season, averaging 13.7 points per game.
