The highly anticipated matchup during the Las Vegas leg of the Border League took place Sunday, as AJ Dybantsa's Utah Prep faced off against Cameron and Cayden Boozer's Columbus Explorers. Utah Prep won the closely contested game 69-68.
Dybantsa finished with 28 points, four rebounds and two assists, making several clutch plays in the closing moments of the game.
Fans reacted to Dybantsa's winning performance, with many calling for him to skip college and go directly to the NBA, which is not allowed anymore.
"Yea he’s ready,"one fan said.
"All jumpers just made so many people who care about hooping smile," added another.
"HS too easy for this kid," another fan commented.
The calls for him to skip college and go directly to the NBA continued as more fans were impressed by how well he did against other top players.
"Skip college put him straight in the league," another fan said.
"Lol can they still go to the league straight from HS?" one fan asked.
"Showed the entire bag AJ look like the #1 pick tonight!" another wrote.
Dybantsa has received several offers from colleges, including Kansas, North Carolina and Alabama. Birmingham Young University, which he visited a week before the Border League tournament, is the favorite to land him. However, he has yet to decide and plans to announce his choice in February.
Dybantsa is projected to leave whichever school he picks after his freshman year, as he is expected to enter the 2026 NBA draft and possibly be the No. 1 pick.
AJ Dybantsa finally gets a win against the Boozer Twins
The win over the Explorers finally snaps the No. 1 overall prospect's recent string of losses against the Boozer Twins.
The last time Utah Prep faced Christopher Columbus High School, the Boozer twins' Explorers dominated with a 95-72 victory. Despite Dybantsa’s impressive 45-point performance, it wasn’t enough, as the twins combined for 72 points.
Dybantsa also struggled in the Peach Jam finals this summer, where the Boozer twins and Nightrydas Elite defeated his Oakland Soldiers team 71-62. In last year's Border League matchup, Dybantsa, playing for Prolific Prep, also fell to the Explorers, losing 83-61.
