The matchup between Highland High School and Utah Prep pitted the two best high school small forwards in the country, Nate Ament and AJ Dybantsa, against one another. The two put on a show at Emmanuel College on Wednesday, and it even got former NBA players like Jamal Crawford and Nate Robinson singing their praises.
Dybantsa and Utah Prep overcame Ament and Highland High School 79-71 in Boston, and former NBA star Jamal Crawford, who used to play for the New York Knicks, noted that the two five-star small forwards were the ones guarding one another throughout the game.
"Love this!! And they guarded each other," said former NBA star Jamal Crawford.
Meanwhile, former Boston Celtic and NBA Slam Dunk contest champion Nate Robinson also made his thoughts known.
"The they was going at it , happy to see the superstars actually guard each other," said "Kryptonate."
The exhibition game was a homecoming of sorts for AJ Dybantsa, who is originally from Brockton, Massachusetts. He had been in the area and spending time with family and friends since Sunday, many of them showing up at Emmanuel College to cheer for him and Utah Prep.
Dybantsa is the No. 1 ranked overall recruit from the class of 2025 as well as the No. 1 small forward. Meanwhile, Ament is the No. 4 ranked recruit from the class of 2025 and also the No. 2 small forward.
AJ Dybantsa reflects on homecoming to Massachusetts
After the victory against Ament and Highland High School, AJ Dybantsa talked about finally being able to come home and having the crowd fuel his performance during the game.
"It's always special to play in front of the home crowd, to see some familiar faces," he said. "We aimed to win for them, and that's what we accomplished."
He added that the game being held in his home state was extra special.
"Brockton is my home, but the whole of Massachusetts feels like home to me. I think it's important to connect with different parts of the state," AJ Dybantsa added. "I shared some advice and words of encouragement with the kids because they rarely get the chance to interact with me. I love doing that."
Dybantsa started his first two years of high school in St. Sebastian. By his junior year, he moved to California to play for Prolific Prep. He transferred again for his senior year and now plays for Utah Prep.
