ZaKiyah Johnson, the No. 10 recruit in the Class of 2025, is set to join LSU after she signed with the program on Nov. 13. After becoming the scoring leader at Sacred Heart Academy last month, Johnson was nominated for the Athlete of the Week title.
On Monday on her Instagram story, Johnson shared The Courrier Journal's post, featuring the players nominated for the award.
Johnson faces competition from Whitefield Academy's Noel Smith and Gwynnie Franz, Kentucky Country Day's McKenzie Doss and Valley's Leah Stinson. The winner will be announced on Jan. 22.
After an 89–20 win against Waggener last month, Johnson scored her 2,378th point, surpassing Crystal Kelly, who had 2,377 points. Kelly, who played in the WNBA, is an assistant coach for the Kentucky Wildcats.
"Congratulations to ZaKiyah Johnson, the new all time leading scorer in Sacred Heart history! With her 2,378th point tonight, ZaKiyah officially passes Crystal Kelly ‘04 who scored 2,377 points during her time," Sacred Heart posted on Instagram.
Johnson Johnson has averaged 19.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks in 122 games at Sacred Heart. In 10 games this season, she's averaging 21.7 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 3.1 apg, 2.2 spg and 0.7 bpg.
ZaKiyah Johnson lays out her goals before heading to LSU
In December, Johnson spoke with Louisville television sportscaster Mason Horodyski in an interview to highlight her goals before heading to LSU.
"I want to be the greatest to come out of Kentucky," Johnson said. "I want to go to the league. I want all the little girls to grow up and say, 'I want to be like ZaKiyah.' You can be a good basketball player, but as a person, you should show who you are as a person."
Johnson, Divine Bourrage, Bella Hines and Grace Knox will join Mulkey's team next season.
