Chris Henry Jr., son of the late NFL wide receiver Chris Henry, has reaffirmed his commitment to Ohio State and silenced speculation about his potential commitment flip.

The five-star wideout from Withrow University High School in Cincinnati emphasized his faith in Buckeyes wide receivers coach Brian Hartline, citing his exceptional player development skills.

“I chose Ohio State because of the development at my position; nobody is better than Coach Hartline at what he does,” Henry said, via Nate Gravender.

Fans on Instagram reacted to Henry Jr.'s comment. Some speculated on a possible flip to LSU, while others debated the merits of powerhouse programs like Alabama.

Henry Jr., standing tall at 6-foot-5 and weighing 195 pounds, is among the most sought-after talents in the Class of 2026. On3, ESPN and Rivals rank him as a five-star prospect, though 247Sports lists him as a four-star.

“What stands out to me about Ohio State is the amount of first-round receivers that have been produced there, and the tradition is different for sure,” Henry Jr. said.

Henry Jr. has also drawn inspiration from his father’s legacy. Reflecting on their similarities, he shared with WCPO:

“I like to watch his West Virginia games. When I watch him, it’s like we run the same, catch the same — it’s crazy. It's really important to live up to my dad's legacy. I think about it a lot when I'm on the field. I think he would be pretty proud of me right now, to see where I am."

Rich Rodriguez returns to WVU: could Chris Henry Jr. follow in his father’s footsteps?

West Virginia University has announced the return of Rich Rodriguez as football coach, marking a new chapter in Mountaineer football. Rodriguez, who previously coached WVU from 2001 to 2007, amassed an impressive 60-26 record.

Rodriguez replaces Neal Brown, who struggled with a 37-35 record over six seasons. Now 61, Rodriguez reclaims the reins after three seasons at Jacksonville State.

“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Rich Rodriguez and his family back home,” athletic director Wren Baker said. “He understands what it takes to win at West Virginia, and I believe he will pour his heart, soul, and every ounce of his energy into our program.”

Speculation swirls that Rodriguez’s return could sway top recruit Chris Henry Jr., ranked No. 1 in the 2026 ESPN Jr. 300, toward his father’s alma mater.

On Dec. 15, Henry Jr. shared a clip of his father’s legendary 2004 game-winning touchdown for WVU, adding intrigue to his recruitment.

With key supporters like Pat McAfee and Ken Kendrick backing Rodriguez, WVU fans are hopeful for both a program resurgence and a legacy connection.
