LSU football coach Brian Kelly and his team hosted an impressive array of top prospects in Baton Rouge this past weekend. Among them was Jonah Williams, the nation’s top-ranked safety from Galveston, Texas. Williams, a dual-sport athlete excelling in football and baseball, has become one of the most coveted defensive recruits for the 2025 class.

The Tigers' 2025 recruiting class already boasts a ranking as high as No. 2 nationally, and Kelly is determined to strengthen it with Williams' addition. A five-star safety, Williams is a standout on the baseball diamond, playing as an outfielder and left-handed pitcher.

Landing major interest from elite college squads, Texas A&M is currently top of the list. No doubt, Kelly is leading the attack for the Tigers to persuade Williams to come.

During Williams' extended visit to Baton Rouge, Kelly and LSU baseball coach Jay Johnson went all-out to impress the talented prospect, giving him an in-depth experience of both the football and baseball programs.

Reflecting on the visit, Kelly expressed optimism, stating:

"Jonah Williams checking in his official visit to LSU and I have a special guest with me. Coach Kelly, I'm with the Williams family. We had a great weekend here in Baton Rouge and hope to see this guy again."

Williams excels not only as a safety but also as a receiver and versatile defensive player. Currently ranked as the No. 10 player in the nation, Williams recently visited Texas A&M, and the Crystal Ball Prediction from On3 favors the Aggies. Visits to Ohio State and Oregon are also on his schedule, with Oklahoma considered a favorite, according to On3.

LSU eyes top quarterback prospects for 2026 recruiting class

As LSU Football gears up for the upcoming season and strengthens its 2025 recruiting class, attention is also being paid to cultivating relationships with 2026 prospects.

This week saw two key 2026 quarterback targets commit elsewhere: four-star Dia Bell, ranked as the nation's second-best quarterback, committed to Texas, and Brady Hart, the No. 9 quarterback, committed to Michigan after a summer visit to Baton Rogue.

The top name in the 2026 class is Faizon Brandon, the premier quarterback recruit. Brandon has visited the Tigers three times, and offensive coordinator Joe Sloan is fostering a strong rapport with him. The Tigers remain a contender for Brandon, facing stiff competition from Tennessee, NC State, Florida State and Alabama.

LSU has extended offers to seven 2026 quarterbacks, but with Jared Curtis, Dia Bell and Brady Hart committed elsewhere, the focus may shift. Four-star Ryder Lyons, who received an offer in May, is emerging as a top priority.

Meanwhile, Troy Huhn — offered in February — could see the Tigers rise as a front-runner now that Texas and Michigan have filled their quarterback spots. LSU's recruiting efforts are already bolstered by commitments from top-ranked quarterback Bryce Underwood and standout running back Harlem Berry. Securing Williams would be a significant addition.
