Phillip Wright III, the three-star wide receiver from Destrehan High School, announced his commitment to Brian Kelly's LSU on Friday. The 5-foot-11 receiver de-committed from the Michigan Wolverines on August 5 and followed that up with a commitment to the Baton Rouge-based team.
Wright became the LSU's third receiver from the class of 2025, after Derek Meadows and TaRon Francis. The four-star prospect made a visit to Baton Rouge during the program's Bayou Splash recruiting event at the end of July.
He spoke about the program after his last visit.
"Had a good time with the guys around campus and a lot of people that I know in my class from around the state," Wright told On3. "That’s an awesome program for a receiver. We had a good time overall. It’s a family thing with all the guys."
Phillip Wright is ranked No.422 overall in the country and is the No.69 wide receiver in the country, as per On3 Industry Rankings. He is also the 12th-best overall recruit from the state of Louisiana.
Phillip Wright de-committed from Michigan before joining LSU
The four-star recruit from Destrehan, Louisiana, announced his commitment to LSU on Friday. However, this wasn't his first rodeo with the commitment process. The receiver initially announced his commitment to the Michigan Wolverines but later de-committed from them in the first week of August.
Wright committed to Michigan back in July this year and was comfortable with his relationship with the Wolverines' wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy.
"My relationship with Coach Bell is good," Wright said, as per On3. "We talk almost every day. What makes it easy is that he is from the same area I’m from, so we connect easily."
Michigan's class of 2025 is currently ranked No.14 in the country as they have landed 16 commitments already. The Wolverines have extended offers to 333 elite high school athletes from the class of 2025.
With Phillip Wright out of the picture, Michigan is down to only one wide receiver commit: Jacob Washington of Archbishop Shaw. He verbally committed to the Wolverines during his official visit for Victors Weekend in June.
Some of the best prospects to announce their commitments to the Michigan Wolverines are four-star cornerback Ivan Taylor and four-star safety Kainoa Winston. Four-star defensive lineman Nathaniel Marshall and four-star tight end Andrew Olesh are also on that list. They are yet to land a five-star recruit from the class of 2025.
