The most coveted sophomore in high school girls basketball, Kaleena Smith, shined with 17 points 11 assists and seven rebounds, leading the Ontario Christian Knights past Fairmont Prep 79-62 in the semifinals of the Troy Classic on Friday.
However, Smith, the No. 1 prospect of the Class of 2027 who already has offers from colleges like LSU and UCLA, didn't do it alone, as the other members of Ontario Christian's young "Big Three" also contributed much to the win.
Freshman phenom Tatianna Griffith outscored Keleena Smith with 22 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Meanwhile, the other rising star freshman, center Sydney "Bean" Douglas, had 18 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and five blocks.
During the preliminaries of the Troy Classic, Smith and Ontario Christian rolled over the Portola Bulldogs 81-35 on Monday and the host Troy Warriors 106-15.
Kaleena Smith and Ontario Christian defeated Mater Dei in the final
After taking care of Fairmont Prep in the semis, Kaleena Smith and Ontario Christian took on the undefeated Mater Dei Monarchs during the final on Saturday and won 66-58.
Smith had a double-double with 15 points, 10 assists and three rebounds. Meanwhile, Tatianna Griffin led in scoring with 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Finally, Sydney "Bean" Douglas had 11 points and seven rebounds.
Griffin was given MVP honors after the tournament, with both Smith and Douglas being named to the all-tournament team along with her. The tournament win put the Ontario Christian Knights at an undefeated 9-0 record for the season.
Kaleena Smith also recently took on No. 1-ranked 2025 prospect Aaliyah Chavez and the Monterey Lady Plainsmen during a trip to Texas on Nov. 30. Although Monterey is considered one of the country's best high school girls basketball teams, Ontario Christian won 82-50.
Ontario Christian's next game will be against Windward High School on Dec. 12, and then it will end 2024 with a game on the road, at Bishop Montgomery on Dec. 14.
