American Heritage High School (FL) receiver Malachi Toney has decommitted from the University of Miami. He had been committed to Miami since August 2023 but decided to explore further options and extend his recruitment.

Toney had reclassified to the 2025 cycle, where he is the No. 50 WR, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

The receiver's decision was announced on Instagram by On3.

Toney's decommitment came as a surprise considering Miami had hosted him for an unofficial visit just a day prior.

The Hurricanes are 5-0 and rank eighth in the AP Poll. Coach Mario Cristobal has changed the program for the better, with the potential to win the ACC and earn a College Football Playoff spot.

On3 suggests that Toney is focusing on schools like Florida State, Oregon, and Alabama. The Crimson Tide could get a commitment from the four-star player, especially with the program's recent success under new head coach Kalen DeBoer.

Malachi Toney's visit to Kalen DeBoer's Alabama adds to commitment rumors

Toney visited Alabama for its game against Georgia last month and caught a spectacular game.

Alabama raced to a 21-0 lead after the first quarter. Although Georgia clawed its way back and even took the lead at 34-33, the Crimson Tide emerged victorious 41-34. It was an important win with many top recruiting prospects in attendance.

His presence in Alabama has fueled speculation that it could be his next destination.

Another school on Toney's shortlist is Oregon, which is ranked sixth and has raced to a 4-0 start.

Toney, listed at 5-10, 182 pounds, has 38 catches for 585 yards and eight touchdowns in six games.

American Heritage (FL) is 3-3 and defeated Plantation 35-0 in its most recent game. Toney had five receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown in only two quarters.

Toney holds offers from Alabama, Florida State, Colorado and Georgia among others.

Alabama has the No. 2-ranked recruiting class in the class of 2025. It has two wide receiver commits and 20 overall, including five-star quarterback Duncanville Keelon Russel.
