Five-star prospect Caleb Wilson has trimmed down his potential destination for college basketball to three schools as he will announce his decision next week. Wilson is ranked the overall No. 5 prospect in the class of 2025 and the No. 2 power forward in the country behind Cameron Boozer.
The 6-foot-9 star is one of the two players in the top five in this year’s class yet to announce his decision, with the other being Nate Ament. However, Wilson has said that he will reveal his decision on Thursday, having cut down his list to three.
"I'll be committing next Thursday, it'll be on a huge platform and I'm excited for it," Wilson told Travis Branham of 247Sports.
Among the schools on Wilson’s shortlist is Mark Pope’s Kentucky. Although nothing is known yet, the Wildcats are reportedly the favorites to land the Holy Innocents Episcopal School basketball star, with a 60.3% chance of signing him according to On3 predictions.
Kentucky has already signed three players from the class of 2025, Jasper Johnson, Acaden Lewis and Malachi Moreno. However, the potential signing of a top-five prospect like Wilson will elevate the school’s competitive edge next season.
But the Wildcats will have to wait as Wilson also shortlisted Ohio State and North Carolina among the schools he is considering. Should Wilson choose the Wildcats, it would partly be because of Pope, who Wilson praised in his interview with 247Sports.
“He coaches with energy and they’re having a great year this year. They’re playing very good. Their system really fits a long 4 like me in the way that they play. And it’s a blueblood, so that’s one of the best fan bases and basketball cultures in the country," Wilson said about Pope and the Wildcats.
Caleb Wilson: a man in demand
The hustle for Wilson should not be a surprise as the 6-foot-9 star is effective at both ends of the court. He is the all-time leading scorer at Holy Innocents Episcopal School in Atlanta with 1,500 points, setting the record in the win over Carver on Jan. 7.
This season, Wilson is averaging 18.9 points, 11.3 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 2.2 steals and 3.7 blocks per game.
With an estimated $1.3 million On3 NIL valuation, Wilson is also one of the most valuable players in his class, ranking sixth.
