We are just a few weeks away from the 2024-25 season, but the Miami Hurricanes have already added another talent to the class of 2025. Jim Larrañaga and Co. have brought on board another four-star center to their future roster.
The 6-feet-10 youngster Ben Ahmed committed to the Miami Hurricanes on Thursday, October 10.
The Putnam Science Academy center made an official visit to the Hurricanes last weekend. Ahmed had offers from Xavier and Cincinnati, but Miami got their hands on the big man.
Ben Ahmed commits to Miami Hurricanes
Joe Tipton of On3 reported that Ben Ahmed has committed to the Hurricanes. The management initially offered the youngster a scholarship in August. However, Ahmed chose to reclassify from the 2026 class. He had also received offers from Georgia Tech and California.
Ahmed’s 7-feet-3 wingspan and 300-pound weight make him a strong force to deal with. He charted 15 points and around 10 rebounds every game last season.
The youngster also overtook Alabama’s Mouhamed Dioubate as the team’s all-time leading rebounder. He has 677 rebounds to his name and took 14 fewer games than the previous record holder to achieve the feat.
Ben Ahmed was fascinated by the Miami Hurricanes’ coaching staff and their way of relating with the players. The style of play in Miami and their practice stood out for him during his official visit.
“You want to go where you’re wanted, so I just had that feeling with him,” Ahmed told CaneSport, expressing his trust in coach Larrañaga and the coaching staff.
The 60th-ranked prospect in the 2025 cycle believes that Miami has a great program. He also tagged Jim Larrañaga as one of the best college coaches at the moment. The Miami Hurricanes’ prior success has cemented Ahmed’s trust in their program.
Ahmed’s scouting reports suggest that he has great touch, feet and a big body. They also add that he has good rebounding, floor spacing and passing skills. However, his stamina and movements need some work for defensive responsibilities.
Ben Ahmed will join the shooting guard Matthew Able in the class of 2025. The pair has helped the Hurricanes climb up in rankings, and Miami’s class is in the top 20 already.
The Hurricanes are likely to stay active in the transfer portal as it will be the final season of eligibility for many players from their 2024-25 roster. Ahmed will continue to improve his skills before he finally dons the Miami Hurricanes’ colors. Jim Larrañaga would love to have an athlete like Ahmed in his squad.
