Three-star cornerback Peyton Dyer is committed to South Carolina, one of the first schools to offer him. However, Sherrone Moore's Michigan has become a potential contender for his services despite his commitment to the Gamecocks.

"Michigan is definitely a top school in my recruitment if something goes wrong with South Carolina," Dyer told Michigan recruiting insider Aidan Sen on Thursday. "I don’t have a visit set yet, but soon."

The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder is one of six committed players in South Carolina's 2026 class, ranking No. 5 in the Southeastern Conference and No. 10 in the nation.

While Michigan continues to pursue Dyer, South Carolina appears to have the upper hand. Earlier this month, Gamecocks defensive backs coach Torrian Gray visited Dyer, and the cornerback shared a photo with Gray on X, captioned by:

"Really appreciate @togray14 for coming by and speaking with me! 🐔🤙🏾#SpursUp #StillCommitted."

According to On3, South Carolina holds an 81.6% chance of retaining Dyer's commitment. If Michigan hopes to flip him, its next step will be securing an official visit.

What would Peyton Dyer's potential commitment mean to Michigan?

Peyton Dyer has built a reputation for his speed and versatility, proving his skills as a two-way player at Duluth High School (Georgia). He plays both wide receiver and cornerback, though his future at the college level is likely as a defensive back.

Duluth High coach Cam Jones offered high praise for Dyer's abilities and character in a conversation with Aidan Sen:

"Peyton Dyer is truly a special talent and one of the finest young men I've had the privilege of coaching. He combines tremendous ball skills, elite speed, and a physical style of play with a competitive edge that sets him apart. Beyond his abilities on the field, his character and work ethic make him a standout individual."

Dyer is the No. 23 cornerback in the 2026 class and the No. 40 recruit in Georgia, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

Michigan has one cornerback commit in their 2026 class: four-star prospect Brody Jennings. If Dyer flips from South Carolina to Michigan, the Wolverines' secondary would be mighty in the cycle.
