Fans reacted as Michigan's flirt with players committed to other programs goes on. After successfully flipping five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood from LSU, the Wolverines have their sights on five more prospects from other schools.
Sherrone Moore and his coaching staff are targeting five-star Alabama offensive tackle commit Ty Haywood, five-star plus+ Georgia edge rusher Isaiah Gibson, four-star LSU wide receiver commit Derek Meadows, four-star Clemson safety commit Jordan Young and four-star uncommitted linebacker Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng.
Michigan's stealing of Underwood in exchange for a hefty NIL deal has earned them heavy criticism. Some fans believe that the Wolverines are leveraging NIL deals to lure players without building genuine relationships.
"Michigan goes from being the biggest cheaters to trying to buy recruits last minute they don’t even have a relationship with. Just sad," a fan wrote.
"How much did they pay for this #AD," one wrote.
"Michigan said “Hold up wait a minute! Y’all thought I was finished?!?” one wrote.
Let's look at some more fan reactions:
Among Michigan’s new targets, Isaiah Gibson stands out as the toughest potential flip.
The five-star edge rusher has been committed to Georgia since June and hasn’t visited Ann Arbor. Michigan already flipped Georgia commit Shamari Earls and is trying to do the same with Gibson by offering him this week.
"boys ain getting isaiah," one wrote.
"They ain’t getting Gibson. Relax," one wrote.
Michigan is doing crazy things when it comes to NIL and was able to do what they did with Underwood, who seemed locked in with LSU but eventually swayed away. So Gibson's flip can’t be entirely ruled out.
Haywood has been committed to Alabama since July and has never visited Michigan, but the Wolverines identified him early. Moore and Grant Newsome made initial contact during a recruiting trip to Texas, and now they’re making a late push.
Young appears to be the most likely to flip, as On3’s EJ Holland predicted Young to switch his commitment from Clemson to Michigan this week.
Meanwhile, Meadows has been crystal-balled by 247Sports’ Tom Loy to flip to Alabama, but Michigan remains in the mix. Owusu-Boateng is down to Michigan, Notre Dame and Colorado, and the Wolverines need to make a strong push to secure his commitment.
Michigan also pushing to flip Colorado commit Alex Graham
We are less than a week away from the early signing period, and Michigan is targeting more prospects. According to The Wolverines' YouTube channel, Michigan is intensifying its efforts to flip the Detroit Cass Tech standout.
Graham was once a top 100 prospect as a freshman, but his stock dropped due to injuries that sidelined him for parts of his sophomore and junior seasons.
However, he rebounded this year with a stellar senior campaign and led Cass Tech on a deep playoff run. His strong performances caught the attention of Michigan's coaching staff, who are making a strong late push for his commitment.
“He’s a guy we’ve talked about on the show plenty of times,” The Wolverines noted. “Michigan had been hot and cold on him throughout the cycle, but they’re now pressing hard as signing day approaches.”
Graham’s ties to Detroit and his official visit to Michigan earlier this season provide a strong edge to the Wolverines. On3’s Steve Wiltfong also predicted Michigan to successfully flip him.
