The battle for the title of the best high school quarterback in the 2025 recruiting class has grown fiercer with Bryce Underwood committing to Michigan and Julian Lewis opting for Colorado.

Both players are immensely talented, leaving fans and analysts debating which of the two stands out more. Let's look at how the two compare on paper.

Bryce Underwood

Bryce Underwood, a Belleville, Michigan native, has emerged as a cornerstone recruit for the Wolverines after flipping his commitment from LSU.

In his senior season, Underwood demonstrated remarkable efficiency, amassing 2,509 passing yards with 32 touchdowns to just six interceptions, while completing 71.8% of his passes.

On the field, he made it to over 600 yards with the ball and scored six points and up along the way. The previous year was almost as good, managing 3,329 pass completions, 44 touchdowns, and just three errors while still completing 64.9% of his attempts.

Underwood’s achievements in postseason play have solidified his reputation. During the 2023 Division I Michigan State Championship, he accounted for over 200 all-purpose yards, including 39 rushing and one touchdown.

His sophomore year saw him tally 2,762 passing yards and 37 touchdowns while rushing for 632 yards and eight scores. Notably, he accumulated 300 all-purpose yards in the 2022 state title game.

Underwood’s accolades include being named the Gatorade National Player of the Year (2023-24), Michigan’s High School Player of the Year (2023) and multiple All-American honors.

Julian Lewis

Julian Lewis, hailing from Georgia, has quickly become a cornerstone for Colorado’s future under Coach Deion Sanders. After de-committing from USC, Lewis decided to join the Buffaloes.

Stealing the thunder from the opposing players, the sophomore broke some records and made 3,094 passing yards, with 48 touchdowns and only two interceptions. His time in high school football has already given him 96 touchdowns and 7,212 passing yards.

Lewis’ postseason performances highlight his potential. In 2023, he threw seven touchdown passes in a playoff game against Harrison and led Carrollton to the Class 7A state quarterfinals.

As a freshman, he recorded 4,118 passing yards — the 13th most in Georgia history — with 48 touchdowns, guiding his team to a 14-1 record and a state championship game appearance. His 531 passing yards in that game remain a state finals record.

Lewis has his own amazing set of accomplishments. He is the first in the history of football at Carrollton High School to get the Gatorade Georgia Football Player of the Year prize. Besides, he was also honored with MaxPreps National Freshman and Sophomore Player of the Year among others.

Both players bring their distinct skills to the games, and the fans will no doubt look forward to their performances in their respective teams next season.
