Coach Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans have secured a big commitment from Jordan Scott, a 6-foot-7 forward from South Lakes High School in Reston, VA. Scott is a Top 100 player from the Class of 2025.
Scott is ranked the No. 52 prospect by 247Sports and the No. 66 prospect overall for the Class of 2025 by the On3 Industry Rankings. He is also the No. 14 small forward prospect in the country for his class.
The Reston, Virginia native's top schools included Maryland and Virginia Tech, but he also received offers from Washington, Florida State, Georgetown, George Mason, Miami, Texas A&M, Indiana, Georgia Tech, California, Texas Tech and Penn State. However, Michigan State made an overwhelming impression on him, with On3 noting that the Spartans had a 93.8% chance of securing his commitment.
During an interview with On3, the Scott had high praise for Michigan State's basketball program.
“I have a excellent relationship with Coach Izzo, Wojcik, and Borovich. I went up there on a few unofficials in the past and and got to see campus and really liked it. I got to see them play Maryland at Maryland live which was a very close game. They have a great basketball culture and energy from the first guy to the last on the bench, and obviously a hall of famer head coach.”
On3’s Jamie Shaw describes Scott as having a great frame and an "efficient game." He also has a long wingspan, with great ball movement and rebounding. Scott also has a high basketball IQ and a good jump shot to go with it.
This new signing will be Spartans coach Tom Izzo's first for the class of 2025 and he is still looking to add more recruits soon.
Tom Izzo preparing Michigan State Spartans for an exhibition against Northern Michigan
Izzo and his staff are not just busy recruiting more players, but also preparing the Spartans for the upcoming 2024-25 season. As a warmup, the team will take on Northern Michigan in the Superior Dome Showdown, an exhibition game.
Last summer, Michigan State hit the road for a series of exhibition games in Spain to help prepare for the upcoming season. The Spartans' record for the trip was 2-1.
Izzo previously noted that the team has been getting better at shooting and is looking to see what the younger players, including Jase Richardson, son of former NBA player Jason Richardson, could do.
The Superior Dome Showdown is on Sunday at 1 p.m. EDT and will air on the Big Ten Network.
