Four-star interior offensive lineman Carter Scruggs remains a top target for Michigan's 2026 class, which has two committed players so far. The standout from Loudoun County High School in Virginia has received over 30 offers and has visited several programs, including Michigan, on multiple occasions.

“Michigan is a top school for me because of their elite academics, development & my relationships with the coaching staff," Scruggs told On3 on Thursday.

This is a strong point for Michigan, as Scruggs previously mentioned that education is the "most important thing" he will consider when choosing his future college.

"I want to get a great education and graduate," Scruggs told Maize N Brew. "Another big thing for me is development. I want to be developed."

Carter Scruggs is still finalizing the dates for his other official visits in June and plans to make his decision after these visits. He is ranked as the No. 10 interior offensive lineman in the 2026 class, the No. 3 recruit in Virginia and the No. 135 prospect in the country, according to On3.

Carter Scruggs raves about Michigan offense

Offensive line coach Grant Newsome is recruiting Carter Scruggs at Michigan, and the prospect is impressed with Sherrone Moore's coaching staff.

“They’ve been successful with offensive linemen for a long time,” Scruggs told Maize N Brew. “I have a lot of trust in the coaching staff. You’re pretty much getting two offensive line coaches there in the head coach ( Moore) and the offensive line coach ( Newsome).
“They’re known for developing a lot of offensive linemen and winning the Joe Moore Award shows how well they develop offensive linemen.”

Michigan has focused heavily on offensive line recruits in the 2025 class, securing a major victory by flipping Bryce Underwood, the nation's No. 1 quarterback, from LSU. The Wolverines also have top offensive prospects like Andrew Babalola and Andrew Marsh in this cycle.

Now, the goal is to replicate this success in the 2026 class, and securing a commitment from Carter Scruggs would be a major win. According to On3, Michigan has a 2.1% chance of landing his commitment, while Penn State leads with an 86.6% chance. However, with Michigan's strong NIL offerings, the momentum could shift in its favor at any time.
