Texas A&M University and head coach Mike Elko secured a commitment from four-star cornerback Adonyss Currie. The cornerback, hailing from Quartz Hill in Lancaster, California, is a highly coveted defensive asset. He now joins five-star quarterback Husan Longstreet as the second top-tier recruit from California for the Aggies in this cycle.
Currie's decision to commit to Texas A&M was influenced by a series of positive interactions with the coaching staff. He was there for the first time in January.
"I like the new staff at A&M and it feels like I'm a priority for them … Coach (Ishmael) Aristide, the DB coach, is the one who offered me, but I've also talked with coach Elko, coach (Jay) Bateman (DC) and coach (Jordan) Peterson (co-DC).
"They feel I can come in and be an impact guy early, and if not right away, at least compete for early playing time, so I'm excited for that visit," Adonyss Currie said.
The California native also enjoyed a fruitful official visit to the Aggies in April.
“All glory to God. I’m just tryna put on for my city," Currie said after his commitment.
Adonyss Currie's commitment comes shortly after the Aggies secured another four-star cornerback, Cobey Sellers, from Pearland, Texas.
With Currie now on board, Texas A&M's recruiting class boasts 11 four-star recruits or better. They successfully overshadowed other prominent programs such as Miami, Utah and Washington to attain the four-star cornerback. Currie also received offers from numerous other top-tier schools, including Nebraska, Notre Dame, Texas, Ole Miss and Oregon, among others.
Aggies surge into top 10 classes with commitment from Adonyss Currie
Adonyss Currie's commitment paved the way for the Aggies recruiting class to become No. 7 nationally. This leap places them ahead of notable programs like Oklahoma and Florida State. Currie now joins fellow recruits Jamar Beal-Goines, Deyjhon Pettaway and Sellers.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, the cornerback is the nation's No. 65 overall prospect, the No. 7 cornerback and the No. 3 recruit from California. 247Sports ranks him even higher as the No. 42 player in the 2025 class and the No. 5 cornerback nationwide.
Currie's versatility has been on full display throughout his high school career. On offense, he excelled as a wide receiver, recording 47 receptions for 865 yards and nine touchdowns during his junior season in 2023. On defense, he recorded 35 tackles, three sacks, four interceptions and six pass breakups.
Elko now features 12 commitments overall for the 2025 class. The Aggies are set to debut with a high-stakes opener against Notre Dame on Aug. 31 at Kyle Field.
